Simple maintenance of Miele machines

The error messages and actions described in this article apply to the Miele G 7882 clinical dishwasher and the PW 5064 commercial washing machine. For other models, the machine's operating instructions are authoritative.
However professional and reliable a commercial, laboratory or household appliance may be, faults can occur with long-term operation. Such faults can be caused by the natural wear of components or by external influences on the appliance. Fortunately, in most cases there is no need to worry, as we can eliminate the causes of basic error messages ourselves. In the article below, we have gathered a few situations you may encounter when using Miele commercial appliances.
Watch out for these if you use a clinical dishwasher!
A Miele dishwasher stays operational for many decades, but that doesn't mean we won't face minor problems in the meantime. A basic error message on the Miele G 7882 clinical dishwasher is the "Fdo" indication and a flashing DOS control light when the appliance does not start. In this case, nothing has broken down – the liquid detergent container has simply run empty. Before rectifying the fault, turn the programme selector to the off position to clear the error message, then switch off the dishwasher's main switch. After refilling or replacing the liquid detergent container, switch the appliance back on and restart the programme. If the S indicator for the salt level is flashing, there is no need to suspect a fault either. Simply fill the reactivation salt container with 1–1.5 kg of reactivation salt, then start the programme.
A minor fault is indicated if the water inlet/outlet indicator light flashes and the "F..E" error message appears. To clear it, turn the programme selector to the off position, then switch off the appliance at the main switch. To rectify the fault, clean the dishwasher's combination filter, the drain pump and the non-return valve. Remove any kink in the drain hose so water can flow freely, or correct an overly high position. Switch on the appliance, pump out the water and restart the programme.
Possible faults of Miele commercial washing machines
Because of the often ageing water network in Hungary, it can happen even with long-term use of PW 5064 Miele commercial washing machines that large amounts of detergent regularly remain in the detergent drawer. In this case, the water pressure is inadequate, which can be checked in two ways. First, check the stopcock and the pressure of the water coming from the tap by running water into a bucket. If the pressure is adequate, clean the inlet filters so water can flow freely.
A similarly simple problem to fix is the spin not working properly. In most cases, the drum cannot move freely because of a physical obstruction.
Clean the washing machine's lint filter and the drain pump of hair left over from washing, and of any coins, buttons or other objects washed out of pockets. Check the outlet and remove any kink in the hose, then run the rinse and spin programme.
